"Nat Sciver-Brunt Always Steps Up in Big Moments": Katey Martin Ahead of England vs Australia ICC Women’s T20 WC Final

New Delhi, July 3: England are one win away from lifting the ICC Women's T20 World Cup trophy after defeating South Africa in the semi-final to book a blockbuster final against six-time champions Australia at Lord's. Former New Zealand cricketer and JioStar expert Katey Martin believes England's experienced core, led by captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight, played a defining role in securing their place in the title clash.

Speaking on JioStar's Adidas Match Centre Live, Martin praised Sciver-Brunt's composed innings after England lost early wickets, highlighting the captain's ability to adapt under pressure.

Sciver-Brunt & Knight Steady England

Martin said Sciver-Brunt's experience and temperament were evident during her match-winning partnership with Knight, which helped England regain control of the contest.

It was a controlled innings. It was fluid in the way she went about it. There were a few nerves early on, but I think they assessed the situation really well. She's so comfortable with her game and so good at adapting to different situations. We saw that in the WPL, where she became the first woman to score a hundred in the tournament. She just continues to step up for her sides in the big moments.

She also credited Knight for playing the perfect supporting role, saying the experienced pair dominated the middle overs through smart strike rotation and timely boundaries.

According to Martin, England's experience ultimately proved too much for South Africa, with the partnership laying the foundation for a commanding performance.

Proteas Women Failed To Build Momentum

Assessing South Africa's chase, Martin felt the batting unit struggled to cope with the scoreboard pressure and never managed to build meaningful partnerships.

She noted that England's disciplined bowling forced South Africa into taking risks, while the lack of strike rotation prevented the Proteas from mounting a sustained challenge. Apart from England's slightly cautious start with the bat, Martin described it as a complete all-round performance from the hosts.

England Face Australia In Dream Final

Looking ahead to Sunday's final at Lord's, Martin believes the occasion will be one of the biggest moments in English women's cricket, with a packed home crowd set to witness a classic rivalry.

You grow up as kids in the backyard or on the streets dreaming of playing in a World Cup final at home and calling yourselves world champions. It doesn't get much better than this. This is everything we play the sport for.

While acknowledging Australia's status as one of the strongest teams in world cricket under captain Sophie Molineux, Martin said England would draw immense motivation from playing a World Cup final on home soil, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown between two of the game's biggest rivals.
