Nathan Ellis Injury Update: With IPL 2026 knocking at the doors, five-time champions Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a major jolt with the Australian seamer Nathan Ellis ruled out of the tournament. The Australian pacer had a hamstring injury earlier, which he picked up in a match against the Brisbane Heat during the Big Bash League (BBL). The injury had forced Ellis out of the BBL Finals as well as the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.
The absence of Ellis is bound to weaken the pace attack of the Lion Kings, which has already been streamlined without much IPL experience. After releasing Pathirana, Chennai had been relying on Ellis to handle the death overs with his mix of slower deliveries and yorkers.

However, with him unavailable, CSK now faces a significant challenge in identifying a dependable replacement, especially since he was brought in with a clearly defined role in the squad.
With Ellis out of the equation, CSK's fast-bowling resources now revolve around New Zealand quick Matt Henry, who impressed in the recent T20 World Cup, and Jamie Overton. The English all-rounder could be asked to step up, especially since fellow overseas seamer Zak Foulkes is still relatively inexperienced.
On the domestic front, the options don't appear particularly deep either. Khaleel Ahmed leads a young pace attack that lacks proven consistency. Supporting him are Anshul Kamboj, who showed promise in his debut season despite CSK's struggles, and Ramakrishna Ghosh, who delivered solid performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The squad also features left-arm seamers Gurjapneet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary as additional options.
As for potential reinforcements, CSK's choices are limited, with most marquee names already snapped up at the auction. Gerald Coetzee stands out as an experienced IPL option, while other available names include Alzarri Joseph, Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith, Spencer Johnson, and Wiaan Mulder.
With their pace options thin and given the air routes being affected, CSK is likely to finalise their replacement soon and bring on board the player at the earliest.
The Chennai Super Kings, under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, will take on Rajasthan in their first match on March 30 in Guwahati.
