South Africa survived the Dutch scare to get a crucial victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday (June 8). The Proteas won by 4 wickets at the Nassau County Stadium in New York to go at the summit of the Group D table. With the defeat, the Netherlands went down to 3rd place in their group.
The Netherlands managed to score only 103 runs after batting first. They had a very slow start and lost early wickets as South African pacers were all over them.

Sybrand Engelbrecht was the highest scorer with 40 runs while Logan van Beek managed to score 23 runs. The Proteas bowlers decimated the Dutch batters and kept the stranglehold throughout the innings. Ottneil Baartman was the best bowler for South Africa with 4 for 11 in his four overs. Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje picked up 2 wickets each for South Africa as well.
In the run chase, South Africa had the worst possible start. Quinton de Kock got run out without facing a ball, captain Aiden Markram got out for a duck and Reeza Hendricks departed for just 3 runs. Heinrich Klaasen was also back in the pavilion soon as South Africa was tottering at 12 for 4 after four overs. David Miller and Tristan Stubbs stitched a crucial partnership and added 65 crucial runs for the 5th wicket. Despite Stubbs' dismissal, Miller continued his onslaught and scored an unbeaten 59 off just 51 balls to steer them towards a victory by 4 wickets.
