Need a format where bowlers dominate, says Sachin Tendulkar

Kanpur, Sep 22: In what is good news for the bowlers, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar today (September 22) called for a format where the bowlers would dominate unlike the batsmen.

In recent times, it is all about batsmen who are calling the shots. In last 2 months, both One Day International (444/3) and Twenty20 International (263/3) team scores' records were broken, by England and Australia respectively.

Sachin Tendulkar has come in support of bowlers

On Thursday, Tendulkar was asked about the health of Test cricket and he did not hide his disappointment on the way batsmen were dominating the game.

"For the future of Test cricket, there has to be a nice balance between bat and ball. The balance is not right as it's too much in favour of batsmen, to be fair. In T20s, batters go after bowlers. 300 is no more a safe target in ODIs. There has to be a format, where bowlers dominate the bat," Tendulkar told "Star Sports" at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium.

Tendulkar is in Kanpur to witness India's 500th Test, against New Zealand. He and other former Indian captains were honoured by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the historic occasion.

In July, Tendulkar had said pitches had to be changed instead of bat sizes after former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting had called for limiting bat sizes.

"I think there should in one format in cricket where bowlers have a better chance of executing their skills. It becomes more interesting for spectators. You got to look at changing the surfaces. I don't think it has got much too do with the bat. I am sure there are guys on the panel (in ICC) who will look into it in more detail than what I have been able to do in the last 30 seconds that you asked me. Overall, wickets need to change and that is what David Warner reiterated," Tendulkar, who played in record 200 Tests, had said.

Virat Kohli won the the toss and elected to bat in the opening game of the 3-Test rubber.
