Nepal Premier League 2024: Pakistan's Sohail Tanvir Becomes First Player to Claim 5-Wicket Haul in NPL

By MyKhel Staff

Former Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir became the first player to claim a 5-wicket haul in the Nepal Premier League. The left-arm seamer achieved the feat during Kathmandu Gurkhas vs Chitwan Rhinos match in NPL 2024 on Monday (December 2).

Tanvir, who retired from international cricket only in March 2023 despite representing Pakistan last in 2017, finished with figures of 5 for 21 in his quota of 4 overs as Chitwan Rhinos restricted the Kathmandu Gurkhas to 111/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

The first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) Purple Cap winner, known for his wicket-taking ability, proved his credentials again on Monday (December 2). He started his fifer with the dismissal of Stephen Eskinazi for 2 in his very first delivery.

Tanvir then struck in his second over, removing Netherlands batter Michael Levitt for 25 before sending back Bhim Sharki in his third over. He then returned for his second spell to remove the opposition skipper Karan KC and Shahab Alam in his final over.

The 39-year-old with an awkward action has been a journeyman even before his international retirement, playing in various franchise leagues and legends cricket tournaments across the world.

Most recently, the former Pakistan pacer turned up at the World Championship of Legends tournament in United Kingdom earlier this year. Before that, Tanvir had stints in the US T10 tournament and several other leagues in 2023.

Notably, Tanvir was part of the Shane Warne-led Rajasthan Royals franchise in the inaugural season of the IPL and helped his side clinch the title. Till date, that remains Rajasthan's only triumph in the lucrative league.

Overall, in his T20 career the left-arm seamer has bagged 389 T20 wickets. He was also a part of Pakistan's T20 World Cup-winning campaign in 2009. He has also played for Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators in the PSL from 2016 to 2022.

In Pakistan Super League, he last played for the Quetta Gladiators in the tournament in which he has bagged 55 wickets from 61 games. He has also had stints in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
