Nepal's cricketing sensation, Dipendra Singh Airee, on Saturday (April 13) etched his name in the record books by becoming only the third player to achieve the remarkable feat of hitting six sixes in an over in T20 International.
The 24-year-old all-rounder showcased his explosive batting prowess during the ACC Men's T20I Premier Cup clash against Qatar in Al Amerat. Airee's remarkable achievement places him in illustrious company alongside legendary cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard.

Yuvraj Singh, famously known for his exploits in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2007, was the first to achieve this milestone when he dispatched England's Stuart Broad for six consecutive maximums.
Fourteen years later, Kieron Pollard emulated Yuvraj's feat in 2021, unleashing his power-hitting prowess against Sri Lanka's Akila Dananjaya in Coolidge and becoming the second batter after the star India batter to smash all six balls of an over for maximums.
In ODIs, Herschelle Gibbs set the precedent by becoming the first player to hit six sixes in an over during the 2007 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup clash against the Netherlands. USA's Jaskaran Malhotra joined this elite club in 2021 with a similar display of batting brilliance against Papua New Guinea.
Before the final over of the innings against Qatar's Kamran Khan, Airee was on 28 runs off just 15 balls. With his aggressive intent clear, Airee proceeded to dispatch every delivery of the last over into the stands, culminating in an explosive innings of 64 runs off a mere 21 balls.
Airee's cricketing journey began with his standout performance in the 2016 ICC Men's U19 Cricket World Cup, where he showcased his talent on the global stage. His rapid rise saw him earn a spot in Nepal's senior team at the tender age of 17, marking the beginning of what promises to be a stellar career.
Interestingly, Airee had previously demonstrated his six-hitting prowess during the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, where he struck six consecutive sixes against Mongolia. However, on that occasion, the feat was spread across two overs as he blazed his way to the fastest fifty in T20Is in just nine balls, eclipsing Yuvraj Singh's record of 12 deliveries.
Airee's scintillating form comes as a significant boost for Nepal with less than 50 days remaining for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Nepal finds themselves in Group D alongside cricketing heavyweights South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands in the eagerly anticipated tournament, which will be hosted in the picturesque settings of the Caribbean Islands and the USA.
As Airee continues to dazzle with his explosive batting, Nepal's hopes soar high for a memorable campaign in the prestigious tournament.
