Hyderabad, April 5: Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar today (April 5) admitted that he was surprised by the popularity of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

On Wednesday, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here, the 10th edition of IPL officially commenced with an opening ceremony.

Tendulkar, who was present at the inaugural event, said he never thought IPL would be "so big". He also added that it was a "big achievement" for the Twenty20 tournament to complete 10 years.
"I can't believe that IPL has completed 10 years. It is a big achievement," Tendulkar told former India captain and commentator Ravi Shastri.
"When the first season (2008) was announced, I never thought it would be so big," Tendulkar, who played and captained Mumbai Indians, added.
Talking about this season, Tendulkar felt all teams were "extremely" balanced and one which utilises the available resources will become the champion.
"All teams are extremely balanced. The team which utilises its resources will become the champion," he said.
Tendulkar was felicitated at the opening ceremony by IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla. Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman were also honoured.
