New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra endured a brief moment of agony before producing a crucial breakthrough in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final against South Africa in Kolkata.
The drama unfolded during the powerplay when Ravindra dropped what appeared to be a straightforward chance to dismiss South Africa captain Aiden Markram.

In the fourth over, Markram nudged a delivery straight towards Ravindra at short mid-wicket. The New Zealand fielder had to dive slightly forward but failed to hold on, spilling what looked like a simple opportunity. The miss immediately proved costly as Markram responded in style, driving the very next ball through the covers for a boundary.
At that stage, the drop threatened to shift momentum in South Africa's favour as Markram and Dewald Brevis began rebuilding the innings after early wickets.
However, Ravindra quickly made amends.
Later in the innings, Markram attempted to accelerate with a big shot over the leg side but failed to get the distance. Daryl Mitchell settled under the ball at deep mid-wicket and completed a clean catch after a brief check from the umpires.
The wicket was credited to Ravindra, bringing an end to Markram's promising innings and handing New Zealand a timely breakthrough.
The moment completed a quick redemption arc for Ravindra - from dropping the South African captain to ultimately claiming his wicket in the high-stakes semi-final.
South Africa were 48/2 at the end of the powerplay before losing Markram as New Zealand tightened their grip on the contest.
