Mysore scion Srikantadatta Wodeyar passes away

Bangalore, Dec 10: Mysore scion Srikantadatta Narasimharaaja Wodeyar, who was elected as the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) chief nine days ago, died of heart attack in Vikram Hospital here at 3.30 pm on Tuesday. He was 60.

Wodeyar was elected as the MP from Mysore four times.

Wodeyar was elected the KSCA president on December 1.

On December 1, Wodeyar was elected as the president of the KSCA. He and Brijesh Patel had joined hands to contest this year's polls in teh cricketing body and had swept the elections.

According to KSCA sources, Wodeyar attended the association's first managing committee meeting on December 5. KSCA condoled Wodeyar's death.

"Wodeyar was declared dead around 3.30 pm after our doctors failed to revive his heart which suffered a cardiac arrest," Vikram hospital in-charge K Madan Kumar told IANS.

Wodeyar was staying in his palatial Bangalore Palace in the city centre with his two sisters and other family members. He was brought to the hospital around 2 pm in an unconscious state.

"As Wodeyar's heart was not beating, we did a cardio-pulmonary resuscitation to revive it but could not. He was admitted into the cardio care unit and put on ventilator to make his heart beat. When all efforts to revive him failed, our chief cardiologist Ranganath Nayak declared him dead," Kumar said.

He is survived by his wife.

The Krishna Raja Market will remain closed as a mark of respect Wodeyar on Wednesday, December 11. Two-day holiday will be observed in schools and collages in Mysore and Chamarajanagar. Two-day mourning will be observed in Karnataka.
