Niki Prasad, who recently led the India U19 team to a World Cup victory in Kuala Lumpur, has joined the Delhi Capitals for the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025. The tournament is set to begin on February 14 in Vadodara. Her teammates gave her a warm welcome as she arrived at the pre-season camp in Pune.
Prasad's leadership was instrumental in India's triumph over South Africa in the final match. Her calm and composed approach during the finals was key to their success. "The important thing was that we were calm and composed during the finals. We just went out there and expressed ourselves," she said.

The Delhi Capitals franchise, co-owned by JSW and GMR groups, celebrated Prasad's arrival with enthusiasm. The players ensured that her achievements were acknowledged with a grand reception. Prasad expressed her gratitude, saying, "To be honest, I expected that there would be cameras but I didn't expect players being there to welcome me."
Prasad is eager to make her debut in the WPL with Delhi Capitals. She views this opportunity as a chance to learn from experienced players and improve her skills. "Being a part of WPL team is a great opportunity for the youngsters to learn from other players," she stated.
Delhi Capitals will face Mumbai Indians on February 15, 2025, marking their first match of the WPL season. Prasad aims to contribute significantly to her team's success and hopes to help them win the tournament. "I'm going to learn a lot and more importantly, will try to contribute as much as I can," she added.
The Delhi Capitals have been active participants in both IPL and WPL since their inception as Delhi Daredevils in 2008. They rebranded in 2019 and reached their first IPL final in 2020. In WPL history, they have been runners-up twice.
