Nitish Reddy Emerges As India's Newest Star : A Father's Sacrifice That Made It Happen

Nitish Kumar Reddy's journey to becoming a top-level cricketer is deeply intertwined with the sacrifices and unwavering support of his father, Mutyala Reddy.

His father made pivotal decisions, often against conventional norms, to prioritize Nitish's cricketing aspirations over his own professional stability.

Birth Of A Star

The rising all-rounder reached his first international century with a boundary lofted over long-on off Scott Boland during the final session of Day 3 in the fourth Test. Nearly 80,000 spectators at the legendary MCG rose to their feet, applauding as Nitish removed his helmet, knelt down, and placed it atop the handle of his bat, offering a heartfelt salute to the skies.

Among the jubilant crowd was his father, who witnessed his 21-year-old son become the third-youngest Indian to achieve a maiden Test century on Australian soil. Joining thousands of Indian supporters, he enthusiastically clapped and celebrated an innings defined by elegance, resilience, skill, and sheer determination.

Nitish, boasting the lowest false-shot percentage in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, delivered yet another flawless knock, showcasing confidence, composure, and remarkable elegance. Throughout the series, he has repeatedly demonstrated his value as a dependable lower-order batter, blending poise with resilience to make significant contributions.

But we all know the success, but not the struggles his father made to make him what he is today.

A Father's Sacrifice

Mutyala Reddy resigned from his government position at Hindustan Zinc when Nitish was only eight years old. At the time, he was posted in Rajasthan but chose to stay back in Andhra Pradesh to focus entirely on nurturing his son's cricketing talent. This decision, made 13 years ago, marked the beginning of a significant gamble on his son's potential.

After leaving his job, Mutyala dedicated himself completely to Nitish's development as a cricketer. He ensured that all aspects of Nitish's training and growth were meticulously handled, serving as both a mentor and manager. Even today, he continues to provide personal guidance and support.

Reddy's father also faced criticism from relatives and acquaintances for his unconventional decision to quit his job and prioritize his son's cricketing ambitions. However, he remained steadfast, confident that Nitish would eventually achieve greatness. His perseverance ensured that Nitish had the resources and environment necessary for success.

Over the years, as Nitish progressed, his father's sacrifices began bearing fruit. Nitish's stellar performances, particularly in IPL 2024 and his maiden Test century at the MCG, have not only validated Mutyala's belief but also restored his dignity and respect within the community. Individuals who once doubted his decisions now admire and praise him.
