No problem in more cricket if injuries taken care of: Srinath

New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) Former pace spearhead Javagal Srinath today made light of suggestions that Indian cricketers are playing far too many international games.

Skipper Rahul Dravid had blamed India's crammed schedule for the mistiming of the Bangladesh series which saw the first Test at Chittagong losing more than 15 hours of play due to rains resulting in a temeless draw.

''We have to get the scheduling right and try to get certain number of Tests and ODIs and try not to exceed that number and plan our tours well,'' Dravid had said.

But, Srinath did not see anything wrong in playing more international games if players' injury worries are taken care of by paying more attention to sports science.

''The more you play the better you get. But, at the same time you have to take care of your injuries. Here comes the role of sports science,'' Srinath told reporters at the sidelines of a promotional function here.

He said if sports science takes care of players' injury worries, there would not be any complaints regarding cricketers' burnt out.

BCCI had also dismissed Dravid's views, saying that Indian cricketers are not playing more cricket than their counterparts elswhere.

Srinath, who is now in the ICC Elite Panel of match Referees, lauded the BCCI's recent move to appoint fielding and bowling coaches for the Bangladesh tour.

''That is the best thing to happen in Indian cricket. They (Robin Singh and Venkatesh Prasad) should be given more time to get the results. One year is not enough, it should be more,'' said Srinath who retired from Test cricket in 2002 after taking 236 wickets from 67 matches.

Srinath and MRF Pace Foundation head coach T A Sekar were here to choose two fast bowlers from 12-18 age group after a four-month rigorous selection programme in Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai under an initiative by sports drink company Gatorade.

The selected players will be trained at the MRF Pace Foundation, Chennai, under fast bowling legend Dennis Lillee and would be groomed as future India fast bowling prospects.

Abhishek Singh from Delhi and P K Dharma of Tamil Nadu were intially selected but Srinath also included one more in Ravi Kant Sharma in view of his talent and they will train for two weeks in Chennai.
