Not cool in Colombo: Angry Dhammika Prasad chases Ishant Sharma

Colombo, Aug 31: Cricket is turning out to be not a 'Gentleman's game'. The scenes witnessed at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) ground on Monday were not in the right spirit of the sport as one player started chasing his opponent during the 4th day of the 3rd Test between India and Sri Lanka.

It was an on-field clash between two fast bowlers and it spilled over to beyond the boundary. One of two was wielding the willow while the other was bowling. In the end, calmness prevailed and a near boxing bout was avoided!

Things started to heat up during India's second innings (76th over) when Ishant Sharma was batting and Dhammika Prasad was running in and bowling bouncers at him. The bowler was no-balled by the umpire after bowling more than 2 permitted short-pitched balls for the over.

Dhammika bowled 4 bouncers at Ishant and the batsman kept ducking under them. And when he finally made contact (ball pitched up) with the bat and took a single, he started banging himself on the helmet almost indicating to the bowler that he should be aiming there.

Soon, Dhammika was upset to see this and went up to Ishant as the latter completed a run. There were few words exchanged as Dinesh Chandimal and R Ashwin also joined in.

And before anything further ugly could happen it was calmed down by umpires Nigel Llong, Rod Tucker and other players. But it did not end there.

In the same over, off the last ball, the bowler dismissed Ashwin to signal the end of India's innings at 274 (setting a target of 386 for the hosts). Soon, Ishant started to run towards the dressing room as he had to come back to bowl.

But as Ishant ran, Dhammika too began sprinting behind the Indian. As Ishant was climbing the stairs, Dhammika too followed him and they almost were in contact before an official came in between. There were few words said before they both headed to their respective dressing rooms.

This was not the first time an agitated Ishant had got into an argument with the Sri Lankan players. Yesterday (Sunday), he was involved in an altercation with wicketkeeper Kusal Perera.

Later, the bowler had said it was only a friendly chat. Ishant was fined 65 per cent of his match fees for 'provoking' opposition players during the 2nd Test.

Soon after Ishant-Dhammika incident, reactions were flooded on the social media. On Monday afternoon in Colombo it was not so cool on the cricket field.
