India captain Suryakumar Yadav has revealed an interesting fact related to his captaincy of the Indian T20 side, which he took charge of after the T20 World Cup in 2024.
Suryakumar Yadav recently added his name to a prestigious list, thus becoming only India's 5th captain to win an ICC Trophy, and 4th skipper to win a World Cup.

Under his leadership, the Indian team went on to win its third T20 World Cup crown, thus becoming the first team to win on home soil and defend a T20 World Cup crown successfully. Suryakumar's stint with the Indian T20 side came after the 2024 T20 World Cup, as Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the format.
Gautam Gambhir took charge as India head coach back in 2024 and Gambhir's era started with Suryakumar making his debut as India's captain. The duo has been excellent since, as India has won all of their T20 bilaterals, Asia Cup, and now the T20 World Cup.
But it was not Gambhir who advocated for Surya's captaincy, it was already a decided agenda before Gambhir took over the helm. Suryakumar Yadav recently opened up on his captaincy appointment, revealing four players who played the key role in it.
The India player revealed that former BCCI secretary Jay Shah was instrumental, while Rohit Sharma and then coach Rahul Dravid also had a key role in it. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar was also on board, as the quartet saw him as the next leader in T20 format.
"There was a time when Jay bhai, the BCCI secretary at that time, called me three or four days before the Sri Lanka series. He called me and told me that they were making me the captain of the T20 team going forward. Yes, he called me first," Suryakumar said while speaking to PTI.
"But I was pretty sure that it was all being planned by Rohit bhai and Ajit bhai at that time. Gautam bhai came in later. They, along with Rahul Sir - Rahul Dravid, the coach then - had discussed it with Jay bhai. Then they decided that I should lead India going forward," he added.
