The captaincy situation of the Indian cricket team has been hovering around for some time now.
Although Rohit Sharma is still at the helm, the everpresent question remains on his future as India captain and the possible prodigy down the line in coming years.

Many players are tipped to take over the reins from Rohit, as the dynamics of the Indian cricket dwindles along. The upcoming T20 World Cup is predicted to be the swansong for Rohit in the T20I format, while we may witness changes in the ODI and Test format down the line.
Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have already led the Indian team in T20Is, whereas Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer are also said to be in the reckoning for a leadership role. Pandya's stock in recent days have dipped a bit for a plethora of reasons, but the Indian all-rounder can still emerge as a top contender for the role.
But former CSK player and pundit Suresh Raina thinks in a different way. According to Raina, the aforementioned names may not have the captaincy baton from Rohit, as he thinks there is another player who is a frontrunner to be India captain and lead the future generation.
Raina, in a podcast, has backed Shubman Gill to become the next India captain.
"I would say he will be the next Indian captain. Ban sakta hai vo (he can be the next captain)," Raina said in the Lallantop podcast recently.
Shubman Gill is leading Gujarat Titans this season after the departure of Hardik Pandya from the franchise. The youngster from Punjab has already showcased his worth as a batter across formats and to be honest, he has been leading the Titans efficiently so far.
Hence, Raina believes Shubman Gill can be the next leader of the Indian team after Rohit Sharma. Although there is a huge way to go for the youngster, Gill has the mould to lead a team. He is generally a calm head on the pitch and has a decent understanding of the game. But he will have to make a huge leap to sit as the next India captain.
