Not Rohit, Bumrah or Kohli! Ex-Pakistan chief believes this India star 'Must be Celebrated'

By MyKhel Staff

Former Pakistan cricketer and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Ramiz Raja has opined on the players' status in India.

The number of top players in India is too much, but only a few of them reach the unwavering support from the billions. Although there are many excellent players in the team, some of them stay behind in popularity race and often are under-celebrated among the masses.

Ramiz Raja

Ramiz Raja, in a recent video on his YouTube channel, stated that India's Ravichandran Ashwin is not celebrated much as an all-rounder.

"He (Ashwin) has not been celebrated as much as he should be as an all-rounder. If you look at his record, he is not less than anyone. He is a no-nonsense cricketer, takes everything in his stride. Even when he is the 12th man or is out of the team, there are no tantrums. He understands the team's situation and his responsibility," Ramiz said.

Ramiz's comment on Ashwin came after Ashwin's brilliant performance in the Test series against Bangladesh. The veteran off-spinner was player of the series with 11 wickets and a hundred to his name across Two Tests.

"He is opinionated but not like he does a lot of critical analysis of anything off the field. He has an intelligent take on the game, which shows in his comments," he added.

Ashwin's prowess was further highlighted by his 37th five-wicket haul in Test cricket during this series, tying him with Australian legend Shane Warne for the joint second-most fifers in the longest format of the game. Only Muttiah Muralitharan stands ahead of him with 67 five-wicket hauls. Ashwin also surpassed the 750 international wickets milestone, becoming the 12th player worldwide and the second Indian to achieve this feat.

Ashwin's contributions to Indian cricket, especially in the Test format, are undeniable. The bowling along with his bating has always served Indian cricket amid adversities, which makes the Chennai born one of the greatest in Indian cricket.
