Cricket has always been the flagship sport of India. And 2024 has been an eventful year for the Indian cricket team.
After the disappointment in the World Cup 2023, team India roared back with the T20 World Cup title in West Indies. Apart from that, the IPL 2024 was also a major hit as Kolkata Knight Riders emerged as the champions after a decade.

In terms of cricket personnel, a plethora of youngsters have emerged as the centre of focus in the year. Numerous players have made their international debut across formats this year, while some have continued their legacy with some unmatched records.
Currently in India, in terms of fanatism - MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are the flagbearers. Millions of Indians do admire and have unadulterated love for their favourites stars, and the aforementioned three names are the pioneers.
But the year 2024 has seen a certain change in the landscape. In terms of Google Search, the modern day gladiators have been eclipsed by emerging youngsters, who have shown their might at the grandest stage.
As per the Google Search History in 2024, two India players who were uncapped at the turn of the year have stolen the show. IPL has always been a fantastic platform for emerging players to showcase their skills, and this year has been the same as well. And two upcoming Indian players have grabbed the spotlight and people have searched their names even more than Rohit, Virat or Dhoni.
Among all the cricketers, Hardik Pandya is the most searched in 2024 in India. But neither MS Dhoni, Rohit or Virat make the list as Abhishek Sharma and Shashank Singh are the two cricketers who have ranked above them.
Shashank Singh emerged as a boon for Punjab Kings in a torrid IPL 2024 season. Bought for just Rs 30 lakh amid controversy, Shashank went on to score 354 runs for the Kings, with a mammoth strike rate of 164. The 33-year-old player has also got his reward as he was one of the two retained players for Punjab ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Abhishek Sharma showcased his supreme class with the Sunrisers Hyderabad jersey as he set a devastating batting benchmark at the top of the order. The Punjab-born was a revelation for SRH and that also earned him India debut, where he immediately shone with a century in a T20I against Zimbabwe. The southpaw is one of India's brightest talents and was high in the search list in the year.
