The ongoing youth Test series between India and England has witnessed another piece of record. After Vaibhav Suryavanshi's brilliance in the last match, another bright prospect of Indian cricket has shone.
Ayush Mhatre delivered a historic performance in the world of youth cricket, storming to the fastest-ever Youth Test century in just 64 balls during the second Youth Test against England U-19 at Chelmsford on July 23, 2025.

With the century, Mhatre, who had a decent IPL 2025 with Chennai Super Kings, broke the previous record for the quickest Youth Test ton, surpassing England's George Bell, who reached his century in 88 balls in 2022.
Coming to the crease under pressure, with India chasing a formidable fourth-innings target of 355 after losing their opener to the first ball, Mhatre produced a counter-attacking masterclass. He finished with a scintillating 126 off just 80 balls, lacing his knock with 13 fours and 6 sixes. His intent was clear from the outset, repeatedly taking on the English bowling attack and keeping hopes alive for an improbable chase.
Statistically, Mhatre's knock established multiple milestones. Aside from registering the fastest Youth Test century, he also matched Brendon McCullum's longstanding record for the highest match strike rate (over 100) while scoring more than 200 runs in a Youth Test. Over both innings, Mhatre accumulated 206 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 121.17, surpassing McCullum's feat from 2001.
India U19 managed a stalemate against England. While chasing 355 runs, they ended at 290 for 6 when the match ended due to bad light. Another sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi had a modest outing in the match. The 14-year-old scored 20 runs across two innings.
