Former captain Dravid had held the record for most runs in a series in Australia, by an Indian batsman, with 619 . Now that record belongs to Kohli.
The 26-year-old Kohli today brought up his 10th Test ton and later crossed Dravid's tally. Kohli now has 639 runs in 7 innings with 4 hundreds and 1 fifty. And he is not finished for the series. This was Kohli's 3rd in a row as Test captain, which is a world record.
Kohli and Dravid are the only Indian batsmen to aggregate 500 plus runs in a Test series in Australia. In 2003-04, Dravid scored 619 runs with 1 hundred and 3 fifties. His highest was where he guided India to a historic victory. He averaged 123.80 that series.
At close of play on the third day, Kohli was unbeaten on 140 with India 342/5 in 115 overs in reply to Australia's 572/7 declared. Australia have already sealed the series 2-0 with wins in opening two Tests. The third match was drawn.
