NZ vs AFG, World Cup 2023 live cricket score and Updates: Unbeaten New Zealand are eyeing their fourth consecutive win against pumped up Afghanistan who defeated defending champions Afghanistan in their last match.
The spin-friendly Chennai surface would give Afghanistan the perfect opportunity to upset another heavyweight team in New Zealand. The Kiwis will be without their captain Kane Williamson who has fractured thumb and is out at least for a week. Tom Latham would be leading in his absence.

Afghanistan would be hoping for their batters to step in the mouth-watering clash. The spin trio of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi will pose a major threat for New Zealand.
Chapman hits a boundary on the final ball of the 50th over as New Zealand finish at 288/6 in 50 overs. Unbeaten 33-run partnership off just 16 balls between Chapman (25* off 12) and Santner. Latham also gone as Naveen gets his second wicket in the over. New Zealand captain clean bowled for 68 off 74. He was dropped twice. Young who was droppe for one also scored a fifty. Could have been a different story if those catches were taken.

Latham dropped again at 48. Another regulation catch goes down this time the captain who was standing at cover. Rashid Khan the bowler again. NZ: 205/4 in 43 overs.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman drops Latham on 35. Goes for a reverse sweep but gets no power behind the shot. This was an extremely easy grab, Mujeeb could have easily brought in both his hands together! Too casual from him. Afghanistan would be hurting if Latham goes berserk from here.
Afghanistan have done a brilliant job to contain New Zealand so far in Chennai. Latham and Phillips have forged a 75-run partnership but that has taken them over 110 balls. Final 10 overs remaining. Can Afghanistan keep restricted in the same fashion of the Blackcaps will launch themselves in the final phase of the game. NZ: 185/4 in 40 overs.

New Zealand has lost their third wicket in a span of eight balls. A soft dismissal this. Daryl Mitchell plays this straight into the hands of short mid-wicket fielder. This wasn't at all a wicket-taking delivery from Rashid Khan. Mitchell could not get the elevation on that shot. NZ: 110/4 in 21.4 overs.
Another for Azmatullah. He has got two wickets from his his first over. An inside edge and wicket-keeper Ikram takes a brilliant catch while driving to his left. Young who was dropped for 1 departs for 54 after a superb catch from Ikram Alikhil. New Zealand: 110/3 in 21 overs.

A four over mid-off from Ravindra on the first ball of the 19th over from Naveen-ul-Haq. This brings up the 100 runs for New Zealand. They have recovered superbly from their early blow.
50 off 57 balls for Will Young. He has filled in for Kane Willaimson perfectly. A four through point on the first ball of the 18th over from Rashid Khan. Second consecutive fifty for Young in the World Cup 2023.
Mujeeb strikes in the the seventh over. Conway trapped in front of the stumps. He played the wrong line but the umpire thinks the ball is missing the stumps. Mujeeb confidently asks for a review and THREE RED. New Zealand star batter has gone. New Zealand one down for 30.
Pumped over long-on for a six. In the slot from Mujeeb and Young picks the length beautifully and fully commits to the shot. Will he make Afghanistan pay for that dropped catch in the second over? The next one hour will confirm it.
Devon Conway, a CSK start, is very well aware of the conditions in Chepauk. He has to boundaries to take New Zealand to 17 for the loss of no wicket in four overs. New Zealand would aim for a good start and not allow Afghanistan to get on top. They will not want to make the mistake committed by England
