The first Test between New Zealand and Australia witnessed an unusual incident after former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was dismissed in a bizarre run-out at Basin Reserve in Wellington.
The senior pro, aiming to get off the mark, attempted to middle Mitchell Starc's ball towards the short mid-off to take a single. However, he accidentally collided with his partner Will Young in the follow-through, in what was a moment of madness.

The incident took place during the last ball of the third over when Kane Williamson was desperately looking to open his account. Will Young realized that it was risky, so he refused to respond to the partner's call.
By then, Kane Williamson already covered half the pitch, forcing Will Young to get back to the striker's end. In the process, both cricketers were involved in an unexpected collision as Marnus Labuschagne's direct throw at the stumps brought Kane's innings to a close.
New Zealand players failed to bring the best out of themselves in the first innings as they were skittled out for 179 in response to Australia's 383 in the first innings. The tourists have a good lead of 217 runs in the second innings. They ended the second day's play at 13 for the loss of two wickets.
