NZ vs PAK, World Cup 2023: 'World No.1 only on social media!' fans mock Shaheen Afridi after 0/90 spell

By MyKhel Staff

New Zealand vs Pakistan encounter at the ICC World Cup 2023 didn't go as planned for the star-studded Pak bowling line-up, led by World No. 1 Shaheen Afridi, gave away 401 runs in 50 overs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday (November 4).

Shaheen Afridi had the worst of days among his compatriots with a spell of 0/90 while Haris Rauf gave away 1/85 with Rachin Ravindra slamming his third century this ICC World Cup 2023. Afridi, who was just crowned the World No. 1 bowler in the ODI format last week, was targetted by Indian fans on social media for having a field day.

While Ravindra slammed 108 runs off just 94 balls on a belter as barring Mohammad Wasim (3/60) none of the Pakistan bowlers could stop the flow of runs with economies of more than six runs per over. Hasan Ali gave away 82 runs in his 10 overs for a wicket while Iftikhar Ahmed went for 55 runs in 8 overs.

Kane Williamson (95) missed out on a ton while adding 180 runs for the second wicket with Ravindra. The massive partnership came after Ravindra added 68 runs for the opening wicket with Devon Conwary (35 off 39). Williamson returned to the team post-recovery from injury and took back charge of the team from Tom Latham.

His stand with Ravindra made his counterpart Babar Azam regret the decision to bowl first after winning the toss. However, Men in Green did gain some momentum before entering the slog overs as Williamson and Ravindra fell in quick succession.

Mark Chapman (39), Glenn Phillips (41), Daryl Mitchell (29), and Mitchell Santner (26*) played crucial cameos down the order to take New Zealand's total past 400. The massive target gave the Kiwis a psychological advantage as such a score has never been chased down in the ICC World Cup history before.

Brief Scores New Zealand: 401 for 6 in 50 overs (Rachin Ravindra 108, Kane Williamson 95; Mohammad Wasim 3/60).
