NZ vs SA ODI World Cup 2023: South Africa Dominates New Zealand with a 190-Run Victory

By MyKhel Team

South Africa had a steadily increasing net run rate throughout their innings, culminating in a powerful finish as they smashed 119 runs in the last 10 overs.

Much of this impressive performance was defined by the batting of Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, and Aiden Markram. South Africa concluded their innings with a formidable total of 357/4 in 50 overs.

New Zealand, in their chase, faced an early setback when Devon Conway fell to Marco Jansen in the third over.

De Kock and van der Dussen formed a formidable partnership, adding 200 runs off 189 balls for the second wicket. De Kock made history by becoming the third batter, alongside Kumar Sangakkara and Rohit Sharma, to score four centuries in a single World Cup, ultimately scoring 114 off 116.

Van der Dussen continued the onslaught, reaching his sixth ODI hundred with an impressive 133 off 118 balls before falling in the 48th over. Miller and Klaasen then took over the task of finishing the innings, which concluded with a six from Markram on the last ball.

NZ vs SA 2

In the earlier stages of the match, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first in Pune. Tim Southee was brought in to replace the unfit Lockie Ferguson for the BlackCaps, while Kagiso Rabada returned to South Africa's lineup, replacing Tabraiz Shamsi.

NZ vs SA 3

South Africa's captain, Bavuma, got off to a quick start but was dismissed by Trent Boult in the ninth over. De Kock and van der Dussen initially played cautiously before taking the attack to New Zealand, further complicating the situation for the BlackCaps, especially when key pacer Matt Henry left the field midway through his sixth over due to injury.

NZ vs SA 4

South Africa has emerged as a formidable force in the World Cup, solidifying their position in the top four with a victory over New Zealand. Despite a surprising loss to the Netherlands, South Africa boasts the best net run rate (NRR) among the ten participating nations.

NZ vs SA 5

Their batting lineup, led by De Kock and complemented by Klaasen's exceptional finishing skills, has been in top form. Additionally, their bowling attack, featuring Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, has been impressive.

NZ vs SA 6

In contrast, New Zealand's perfect start to the tournament was marred by consecutive defeats against India and Australia, partly due to growing injury concerns.

They did have some positives in their previous match, with Rachin Ravindra's century nearly helping them chase down a target of 389. However, in Pune, New Zealand struggled to regain their winning momentum, and they now face pressure in their remaining group stage games.
