NZ vs SL: Rachin Ravindra goes past Rahul Dravid, Ben Stokes and Babar Azam, breaks Jonny Bairstow's record

NZ vs SL: New Zealand batting sensation Rachin Ravindra on Thursday broke Jonny Bairstow's record for most runs by a batter in his maiden World Cup 2023 edition. He went past the likes of Rahul Dravid, Ben Stokes, Babar Azam and Bairstow to own the elusive record.

England opener Jonny Bairstow piled up 532 runs in 11 matches at an average of 48.36 in the 2019 World Cup. In the same edition Pakistan captain Babar Azam scored 474 runs in eight matches at an average of 67.71. Ben Stokes (465) in 2019 and Rahul Dravid (461) are now fourth and fifth in the list respectively.

Most runs in a maiden World Cup edition

During the course of his 34-ball 42-ball knock against Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Rachin Ravindra also went past Virat Kohli (543) and Quinton de Kock (550) to become the leading run-scorer in the World Cup 2023.

The 23-year-old southpaw has scored 565 runs at an average of 70.62 in nine matches. Kohli and de Kock have a chance to overtake Ravindra before the semi-final stage. South Africa and India are left with one league match each.
