ICC ODI World Cup 2023: India's Nightmarish Start as Top Three Batters Depart for Ducks in 2 Overs; Rohit Sharma criticised on social media

ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: In an unexpected turn of events, India's batting order had a terrible start as its top three batters against Australia in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday (October 8).

Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer were all out for no runs in the first two overs of a key match, which is their opening game of the showpiece event.

ODI 600

The game had just begun. Ishan Kishan, who was playing in his first World Cup, had a disappointing performance. The wicketkeeper-batter successfully held onto the catch after Mitchell Starc, known for his deadly pace, forced an edge off Kishan's bat.

Kishan left for a golden duck, shattering his hopes of having an impact in his maiden World Cup game. Josh Hazlewood of Australia delivered a critical hit. Hazlewood struck Rohit Sharma with a delivery that nipped back, surprising him.

The seasoned player Rohit chose to request a review, but the umpire's ruling of "UMPIRE'S CALL" forced him to leave for a duck after only six balls. It was clear from Rohit's disappointed expression that India had suffered a serious defeat.

As if losing Rohit Sharma early on wasn't demoralizing enough, Shreyas Iyer entered the game to take against Hazlewood's relentless bowling. His time at the crease, though, was also brief.

Iyer was tempted to attempt a shot when Hazlewood delivered a long delivery, but he could only chip it right into David Warner's hands at cover. Iyer quickly joined Rohit in the pavilion but was also unsuccessful in opening his account.

The Indian squad and its supporters are still shaking from this early wickets string. In a game with this much on the line, losing your top three batters with no runs scored is an extraordinary and disheartening circumstance.

India Captain Rohit Sharma criticised

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma was trolled on social media for his team's disastrous start in a big game. The senior opener was also slammed on social media for perishing early.

For the time being, India will rely on their middle order to steady the innings and compile a solid total. The remaining batters must regroup and bounce back from this disastrous start if they are to remain in the lineup. It is impossible to overestimate the value of collaboration and the necessity of perseverance under pressure.

Even though cricket is renowned for its unpredictable nature, India will have a tough time regaining control and making a statement in this important game. It serves as a sobering reminder that in the sport of cricket, things may turn for the worst in a matter of minutes.
