ODI World Cup: Santner Shines as New Zealand Crushes Netherlands in World Cup Clash

New Zealand's innings got off to a slow start with three maiden overs, but they managed to score 50 runs off the last three overs, thanks to Tom Latham, Mitchell Santner, and Matt Henry.

This boosted their total to 322. In response, the Netherlands struggled to accelerate their innings and eventually folded for 223 runs. New Zealand continued their strong performance in the tournament, winning their second consecutive match.

Mitchell Santner was named the Player of the Match for his all-round performance. He scored an unbeaten 36 runs from 17 balls and took 5 wickets for 59 runs, becoming the first New Zealand spinner to achieve a five-wicket haul in a men's ODI World Cup.

Santner used his variations effectively on a spin-friendly pitch, with his dismissal of Scott Edwards being a key moment in the match.

Santner slowed down his delivery and bowled wide outside off to tempt Edwards in the 35th over. Edwards had scored 12 runs off the previous three deliveries, including a six and a four.

With the required run rate increasing, Edwards attempted a slog but ended up offering a simple catch to Santner. This wicket effectively ended the Netherlands' hopes of causing an upset as they were reduced to 174 for 6.

NZ 2

New Zealand had a challenging period with the bat as they lost 3 wickets for just 16 runs in the death overs, going from 238 for 3 in the 41st over to 254 for 6 in the 45th over. However, Tom Latham held firm at one end, defying the Netherlands bowlers.

Latham struggled initially, scoring only 1 run off his first 5 balls, but he later accelerated and managed to score 53 runs from 46 balls, which was a crucial contribution given the difficult pitch conditions.

NZ 3

New Zealand had partnerships throughout their innings, with notable contributions from Will Young and Rachin Ravindra, who both scored half-centuries. Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell also added runs to the total.

NZ 4

Ravindra, in particular, impressed with his ability to find boundaries, although he had a stroke of luck when an lbw appeal was turned down.

NZ 5

Daryl Mitchell hit 48 runs, including several boundaries and sixes, while Young's 70 off 80 balls provided a solid foundation for New Zealand's innings, especially after his early struggles in the tournament.

NZ 6

In their chase, the Netherlands could only manage a steady partnership of 50 runs between Colin Ackermann and Teja Nidamanuru for the fourth wicket. Ackermann top-scored with 69 runs, but the other top-order batsmen couldn't contribute significantly, and Scott Edwards' 30 was the highest score apart from Ackermann's innings.
