The full schedule for IPL 2026 will be released only after the Election Commission announces the dates for upcoming Assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory, according to BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla.
Speaking in Delhi, Shukla said the board is waiting for the election schedule before finalising the remaining fixtures of the tournament.

"It's good if the announcement is going to be made. After the dates are announced, we will be able to release the complete schedule of the IPL," Shukla said.
The Indian Premier League often needs to coordinate its schedule with the Election Commission because both events require large-scale security arrangements across multiple states.
With Assembly elections expected in four states and one Union Territory, security forces are likely to be heavily deployed for polling duties, which can affect the availability of personnel required for IPL matches.
As a result, the BCCI is waiting for clarity from the Election Commission before confirming the tournament calendar.
The upcoming IPL season is expected to begin on March 28, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru reportedly set to host Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match.
However, the board has so far only released a partial schedule for the first phase of the tournament.
Once the Election Commission confirms the poll dates, the BCCI is expected to finalise and release the complete IPL 2026 schedule, including venues and match timings for the remaining fixtures.
The development reflects how closely major sporting events in India must align with the country's political calendar, particularly when large-scale security arrangements are involved.
