ONE SAMURAI 1: Avazbek Kholmirzaev Vows to Make History in World Title Fight vs Yuya Wakamatsu

Avazbek Kholmirzaev carries the weight of national expectation into his title shot. The 25-year-old Uzbek finisher will challenge reigning ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion Yuya Wakamatsu for gold at ONE SAMURAI 1 on 29 April, with dreams of becoming Uzbekistan's first ONE MMA World Champion.

Kholmirzaev enters this career-defining moment riding a six-fight winning streak that showcases his well-rounded finishing ability. The contender carries a formidable 9-1 ONE record with eight victories via finish, proving he can end fights through both strikes and submissions.

Standing across from him will be the 31-year-old Japanese fighter Wakamatsu, who defends his crown on home soil while riding his own five-fight winning streak. The reigning king carries a 10-4 ONE Championship record built on devastating finishing ability.

Kholmirzaev attributes his success to an unshakeable mindset and relentless work ethic. The Uzbek challenger believes his hunger and discipline will prove decisive when championship pressure reaches its peak inside Tokyo's Ariake Arena.

"I am hungry, disciplined, and always improving. I believe my mindset and my determination will make the difference in this fight. I think it will be a good fight. I will do my best and try to get the win," Kholmirzaev said.

Kholmirzaev respects Wakamatsu's resume while making it clear that friendship ends once they enter the ring. He views his rival as the kind of elite opponent who forces growth through adversity.

"Wakamatsu is a very good fighter, strong and experienced. Strong opponents push you to grow and become better. But inside the [ring] there is no friendship. I am coming to win," he declared.

Preparation has consumed Kholmirzaev's life in the months leading to this opportunity. The Uzbek fighter emphasized his commitment to learning from past mistakes while pushing himself physically and mentally to reach new heights.

"I've been working a lot on myself. After every fight, I try to learn from my mistakes and improve. I have prepared very hard for this fight, both physically and mentally. This is my moment to show my level," Kholmirzaev said.
