Out-Of-Form Suryakumar Yadav Lives On Razor's Edge, Needs To Strike Form Soon | Opinion

Surya Kumar Yadav's form is a real concern for Team India, especially given how dominant he used to be in T20s. His ability to play 360-degree shots made him India's most dangerous batter in the format, but lately, he's looked completely out of sorts.

One big knock in ten games isn't the kind of returns you'd expect from the world's No. 1 T20 batter. What makes it more complicated is that he's not just a player-he's the T20 captain, and he has strong backing from key figures like Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma.

That support is probably the only thing keeping him in the role right now. But with the T20 World Cup approaching, how long can India afford to persist with a struggling skipper? Should he be given more time to regain form, or is it time to start looking at other captaincy options? India has a history of making sudden, reactionary decisions when things go wrong.

Whether it's dropping players, changing captains, or tweaking the team composition, the BCCI often makes moves that seem driven more by short-term results than long-term planning. Surya's form is worrying, but scrapping him as captain right away would be another classic knee-jerk reaction. He was backed for the role because of his T20 expertise, and while his performances have dipped, experienced players should be given some breathing room, especially in a format as volatile as T20 cricket.

At the same time, if he doesn't get back to form his form soon, India might have no choice but to rethink about their leadership. That means Surya is definitely walking a tightrope right now. Three ducks in his last five T20Is is alarming, especially for a player who thrives on confidence and aggressive stroke play. With Hardik Pandya showing a cool, composed leadership style reminiscent of MS Dhoni and also having the strong backing of Gautam Gambhir, Surya's position as T20 captain is far from secure.

Rohit's situation in Test cricket was a clear example of how Indian cricket can be ruthless when results don't go their way. Despite being a proven leader and one of India's best batters in white-ball cricket, his struggles in Australia led to him being sidelined. That just shows that no one is untouchable when performance dips. Now, with Surya going through a rough patch in T20s, the pressure is mounting on him too.

Given that he's considered close to Rohit, the fear is that he might face a similar fate if his form doesn't improve, especially with Hardik looking like a strong alternative. The IPL will be a huge test for Surya-not just for his batting but also for proving his worth as a player. If he doesn't deliver, the selectors might not hesitate to move on, just like they did with Rohit in Tests, who knows?
