Pak lacks basic cricket structure, adopt Australian model: Imran

Karachi, Mar 29 (UNI) Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan held lack of cricketing infrastructure responsible for the nation's severe cricket crisis and advocated the need for adopting Australian model of cricket to revive the fortunes of the game in the country.

Citing the major reason behind the persisting cricket crisis, Imran told 'The News', ''Pakistan lacked basic cricket structure as there is no cricket structure in Pakistan,'' adding, ''Cricket should be made an institution in Pakistan and Australian model should be adopted as it was the demand of the day.'' ''Australia have a super cricket structure, as a result they are producing world-beating teams over the years,'' Imran Khan commented on a private TV channel. ''There is no rocket-science as to what should be done to restructure the game of cricket in Pakistan,'' he added.

Pakistan has immense cricketing talents and is considered as a breeding ground of pace bowlers, but their performances in the recent past have faltered in justifying their credentials.

''Pakistan was enriched with great cricketing talent but it lacked cricket structure which was spoiling this talent,'' the 1992 World Cup winning skipper said.

He further made it clear that as a loyal Pakistani former cricketer, he had given several positive suggestions to the PCB for regaining the lost glory of the nation's cricket.
