PAK vs ENG 1st Test: List of Unwanted Records Set by Pakistan in Innings Defeat to England

By MyKhel Staff

Pakistan created several unwanted records after being handed an innings and 47-run defeat by England in the first of the three-Test series at the Multan Cricket Ground in Multan on Friday (October 11).

After a trio of centuries helped Pakistan set a first innings total of 556, the visiting England side responded by posting the fourth highest score in an innings - 823/7, riding on Joe Root's double ton and Harry Brook's triple ton.

The hosts then fell for 220 after spinner Jack Leach claimed the final three wickets on the final day as a Test many would have believed to be headed for a draw finished with an England win.

This marked the first time a team lost a Test by an innings despite scoring over 500 in the first innings. That was one of many records rather unwanted created by the home side Pakistan in Multan. Here is a look at some of the unwanted records set by Pakistan:

Unwanted records of Pakistan in PAK vs ENG 1st Test (Stats courtesy: CricBuzz)

  • 5 - Most defeats after scoring 500 plus in a Test
  • 3 - Most centuries in a losing cause
  • 556 - Joint third highest first innings total in a losing cause when batting first
  • 556 - Highest first innings score in an innings defeat
  • Innings & 47 runs - Fifth biggest defeat at home
  • 11 - Longest winless run at home (7 Defeats, 4 Draws)
  • 150 - 900 balls is the most overs bowled by a team featuring just one maiden over in a Test innings
  • 6 - Sixth successive defeat (3 defeats to Australia, 2 to Bangladesh & 1 to England)

This defeat was the sixth on the trot for Pakistan in the World Test Championship cycle. The white-wash at home against Bangladesh was one to forget, but the manner of defeat to England will deepen their scar even further.

Shan Masood's side will hope to bounce back and put an end to this slide when they host England in the second Test at the same venue in Multan from Tuesday (October 15).
