PAK vs ENG 2nd Test: Ben Stokes Reacts to Pakistan Re-using Same Multan Pitch for 2nd Test Against England

By MyKhel Staff

England Test captain Ben Stokes has expressed surprise at Pakistan's decision to use the same pitch for the second Test in Multan, following their innings defeat in the first Test of the series. Stokes, who missed the first Test due to injury, is set to return for the second match, which starts on October 15.

During the pre-match press conference, Stokes addressed the unusual tactic, suggesting it could be beneficial for both teams. "I think if we went one-nil down at home, we would probably go to our groundsman and ask for a bit more of this and a bit more of that for the second Test, to use our home advantage," Stokes said.

He acknowledged that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) might be looking for ways to level the series after their defeat. He added, "If another wicket like that is produced, it gives us more of an advantage because of the way we take the game on and how we play it."

Stokes also acknowledged that using a used pitch could bring more excitement to the game. "Using the used pitch brings a lot more into the game for both teams. If it spins and reverses more, there's more options for both teams. Could be a tactic. I've never seen the same pitch being used for back-to-back games."

The decision to reuse the pitch comes after Pakistan's heavy criticism for their performance in the first Test, despite putting up an impressive first-innings score of 556. Pakistan's captain, Shan Masood, has faced increased scrutiny, and the pressure is mounting on the team to perform well in the second match.

Adding to Pakistan's troubles, key players Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah have been dropped for the second Test. Stokes, who has been bowling in the nets ahead of the second Test, emphasized his readiness to return.

"I'm available to bowl, and obviously, when I sense the time is right for me to come on and make an impact, there won't be any doubts in my mind," he remarked. The second Test is seen as crucial for Pakistan, who have not won a home Test in 11 attempts.
