Mohammad Yousuf, the former Pakistan cricket captain, resigned from his role as a selector of the Pakistan men's cricket team on September 29, citing personal reasons. His resignation came just ahead of the crucial home Test series against England, set to begin in October.
In his statement on X (formerly Twitter), Mohammad Yousuf expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a selector and shared his confidence in the future of Pakistan cricket. "It has been a profound privilege to contribute to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket," the 50-year-old Pak legend said, adding that he has immense faith in the talent and spirit of the players.

Yousuf's resignation followed his retention in the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) selection committee despite the team's lacklustre performance in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. While selectors like Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were dismissed from their roles, Yousuf and Asad Shafiq remained part of the revamped committee under PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi.
The committee, including Mohammad Yousuf, was responsible for selecting the squad for Pakistan's recent home Test series against Bangladesh, which ended in a disappointing defeat under the captaincy of Shan Masood. Earlier in September, Yousuf was also involved in selecting the squad for the upcoming Test series against England.
According to a PTI report, Yousuf was unsettled by the continuous media criticism and felt uneasy about the ridicule from within the PCB, as well as from his former teammates. A source close to the situation revealed that Yousuf believed it was better to focus on coaching, an area he had previously worked in with the senior team and the Pakistan Under-19 side.
Despite his contributions, including his involvement in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad, Yousuf decided to step down amid rising criticism following Pakistan's struggles on the international stage. His decision to resign marks a significant development for Pakistan cricket as the team prepares for an important Test series against England.
Mohammad Yousuf, who enjoyed an illustrious career representing Pakistan in 90 Test matches and 288 ODIs, had taken on the role of selector in March 2024.
