PAK vs ENG: Pakistan reach New Low in Test cricket history after Multan defeat

The city of Multan witnessed another piece of Pakistan's downfall in the recently concluded Test against England.

Pakistan, despite scoring a heap of runs in the first innings, succumbed horrifically in the second and thus suffered another defeat on home soil, their third in a row.

After scoring 556 runs in the first innings, England compiled an even bigger score. Harry Brook's maiden triple hundred along with a double hundred from Joe Root meant the visitors amassing 823 runs.

But Pakistan failed to keep their sanity with the bat in the second and fell in the spin trap of Jack Leach. In the second inning, Babar Azam and others got bundled out for just 220 runs, thus losing the match by an innings and 47 runs.

Babar was disappointing yet again, this time getting out for just 5 runs after managing 30 in the first innings. With the latest defeat, Pakistan have now lost five matches in Test cricket when scoring 500+ runs in the first innings.

Pakistan fall down to New Low in Test cricket

Although many teams have suffered a defeat despite scoring 500 runs, this Pakistan team snooped down to a new low in Test cricket. In the history of Test cricket, they are now the only team to lose a match by an innings after scoring 500 runs in the first innings.

They have also managed to rack up and extend many other humble records after this match. Pakistan have now become the only Asian team to have lost to England by an innings in Asia in the 21st century. The loss at Multan means Pakistan have now gone winless in 11 home Test matches, stretching back since March 2022.

The 2nd Test between the two teams will be in Multan as well and it is set to start from October 15.
