Saad Baig, Pakistan captain: The way Ubaid and the other bowlers bowled, was brilliant to watch. It's a good positive point for us that our openers batted so well. I believe in our bowlers and in their strengths. I tell them to keep it simple. Shahzaib played a good innings and played with good intensity. We will take these two points to the Super Six. Hopefully, we will do well in the coming matches.
Oscar Jackson, the captain of New Zealand, remarked, "They consistently bowled in challenging areas, making it difficult and frustrating for us. Once a team gains the upper hand in cricket, it's often easier to maintain that momentum, but unfortunately, we didn't perform up to our potential. However, our bowlers have been exceptional in the last two games. Today, despite the outcome, our fielding was commendable, and our team gave their all."
Shahzaib Khan has been named the Player of the Match for his knock of 80*. The youngster said, "In the previous match, I scored a century. The confidence was there, I saw the first 3-4 overs and then played my shots. We discussed that we have to survive the new ball and then express ourselves. We bowled really well with the new ball, Ubaid bowled brilliantly, our spinners were really good too."
With this victory, Pakistan have completely dominated New Zealand and secured the top spot in Group D. The Kiwis struggled with the bat under overcast conditions. Opting to bat first after winning the toss proved to be unsuccessful for them. Ubaid impressed with the new ball, and then the Pakistani spinners displayed their skill to dismiss the Kiwis for a below-par total. In reply, the Pakistani openers, Shahzab and Shamyl, started cautiously. Once they settled in, they unleashed their attacking strokes, with Shahzab being particularly destructive. The Kiwi bowlers had few resources to work with. Both Pakistani openers scored unbeaten fifties and left no opportunity for the opposition to make a comeback.
Four & Win! Shamyl Hussain hits the winning boundary and with that Pakistan have scored a massive 10-wicket win over New Zealand in this largely one-sided match.
