PAK vs SA: Pakistan captain Babar Azam was left shattered against his dismissal against South Africa in match number 26 of the World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, October 27.
On the fifth ball of the 28th over, Babar Azam got down on his knee to play the lap sweep but the tossed up delivery from Tabraiz Shamsi took a faint edge off his gloves before wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock completed the catch.

However, the dismissal was not affirmed immediately. Shamsi thought the ball missed the edge of the bat and the wicket. De Kock also did not look very confident but suggested captain Temba Bavuma to take a review. All the while, Babar Azam looked calm and confident, almost certain that the decision would come in his favour.
However, the 29-year-old was soon left stunned when the Snickometer showed a spike with the ball crossing the gloves. Babar Azam, who scored 50 runs off 65 balls, had a numb reaction on his face. He walked back to the pavilion slowly and stunned.
Fans slammed Babar Azam for throwing away his wicket at a crucial juncture of the game. Notably, Babar Azam equalled Shubman Gill and Pathum NIssanka's tally of most (11) fifties in 2023. The wicket left Pakistan reeling at 141/5 in 27.5 overs.
Babar Azam is under the firing line and his captaincy has also been questioned after Pakistan's three consecutive defeat in the World Cup 2023. In their last match, they lost to Afghanistan by 8 wickets. Pakistan are currently placed sixth in the ten-team World Cup 2023 points table.
