South Africa secured a tremendous victory over Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2023 on Friday at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.
A nailbiting encounter between the two sides saw the game go right to the wire, and it was the Proteas who went top of the table with a one-wicket victory over Pakistan, thus marking South Africa's first-ever victory over Pakistan.

And it was Keshav Maharaj, who scored the winning runs against Pakistan. The left-arm spinner contributed significantly to an unforgettable victory as he scored a boundary off Mohammad Nawaz to seal the win.
Despite a strong start, South Africa's score plunged from 260 to 9 for the loss of four wickets and only 25 runs, leaving them 11 runs short of their goal. The scenario seemed to tilt the match in Pakistan's favour, an absolute necessity for them. Yet, against all odds, Maharaj and Shamsi held their nerve and steered South Africa to an extraordinary triumph.
In the 48th over, Maharaj got a shorter delivery from Nawaz and whipped the ball off his legs to get the crucial boundary.
After the victory, Maharaj went berserk. His elation was palpable as he celebrated his victory by pounding on his chest, the determination clear in his wide-set eyes. Shamsi, too, couldn't contain his excitement, hugging Maharaj tightly amidst the cheers of delight from their South African team.
Their triumph has propelled South Africa to the top of the leaderboard, boasting five victories and a lone defeat in their six matches. The Proteas have never won a World Cup, and they will be hoping to break the hoodoo in this edition of the tournament.
