Pak chief selector Mohsin Khan wants separate T20 squad

By Super Admin

Karachi, Mar.4 (ANI): Newly-appointed Pakistan chief selector Mohsin Khan has suggested picking up a separate squad for T20 format, saying the bang-bang version of the game is hurting Test and one-day prospects of the national squad.

"Twenty20 cricket has already damaged our Test and one-day performances. I will be suggesting to the board to have a separate Twenty20 team," Mohsin told mediapersons here.

Mohsin said there are only a handful of players capable of playing in all three formats of the game, and that he would request the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt to have a different set-up for T20 matches.

"Some outstanding players like Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal, Fawad Alam, Saeed Ajmal and Umar Gul fit into every format. But apart from these players, I would request the chairman to have a totally different set-up for this format. I believe in having a separate Twenty20 team, because it is hurting our Test performances,' The Daily Times quoted Mohsin, as saying.

He also made it clear that his criteria for selecting players would be on form and fitness only, and added that his real work would start after T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in May in the Caribbean, while finalising the names of players for an exhaustive tour of England.

Pakistan would be playing six Tests, five ODIs and two T20s against Australia and England during the forthcoming tour.

"My criteria of selection will be simple-form and fitness," Mohsin said adding, "In case of the team's failure, everybody should take responsibility including captain, coach and manager," (ANI)
