Pakistan Champions Trophy 2025 Squad: Usman Khan in Contention, Sufiyan Muqeem may be axed

By MyKhel Staff

Pakistan is nearing the announcement of their squad for the Champions Trophy, which is set to start from February 19.

Mohammad Rizwan is set to lead the side, whereas a various other key players are likely to be included. But the selectors are keeping a close eye on some young talents, who have done well in PSL and domestic circuit.

Pakistan Champions Trophy 2025 Squad

As per Samaa TV, Usman Khan and Aamer Jamal are being added to Pakistan's squad, with Sufiyan Muqeem and Irfan Niazi reportedly making way. This potential shake-up has sparked discussions, especially with Sufiyan's recent performance making his exclusion a surprising move.

In his only ODI appearance, Sufiyan Muqeem impressed with a four-wicket haul against South Africa. His skill set could prove crucial on Pakistan's flat, batter-friendly pitches. However, selectors seem to be prioritizing other options for the upcoming series and the much-anticipated Champions Trophy.

Strengthening Batting: Usman Khan's Inclusion

Usman Khan has yet to make his ODI debut but boasts an impressive List A record, averaging 75.66. His potential selection might address the batting depth in the absence of Saim Ayub, who is recovering from an injury sustained in South Africa. With talks of Pakistan opening with Babar Azam, Usman Khan could slot in as the number three batter.

Aamer Jamal, the seam-bowling all-rounder, is another name set to make a return. Having represented Pakistan across formats before, his inclusion could bolster the bowling attack and provide depth in the lower-order batting. He might replace Irfan Niazi, who has struggled to make an impact in his eight ODI appearances so far.

With the Champions Trophy fast approaching, the squad faces further changes. The inclusion of Fakhar Zaman is rumored, providing Pakistan with another experienced opener option. If Usman Khan is indeed selected, Pakistan's top-order strategy could take a new direction, possibly featuring Babar Azam opening the innings.

Who is Usman Khan?

Usman Khan is a promising batter in Pakistan's domestic circuit, known for his consistent performances in List A cricket. He has a remarkable batting average of 75.66 in the format, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. While he is yet to don the Pakistan jersey in ODIs, his domestic success has earned him recognition as a potential mainstay in the national team's batting lineup.
