Pakistan remains the only participating team yet to announce their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set to commence on February 19. According to ICC regulations, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has until February 11 to finalize their squad for the much-anticipated tournament.

The delay comes amidst uncertainty surrounding young left-handed batter Saim Ayub, who sustained an injury during the recent Test series against South Africa. Ayub is currently recovering in London and is expected to return to Pakistan in early February.

Reports suggest that PCB is giving Ayub every opportunity to recover before deciding on his inclusion. If deemed unfit, experienced batter Shan Masood could replace him, while Fakhar Zaman is likely to make a comeback to the squad.

PCB sources indicate that the squad for both the Tri-Nation ODI Series, starting February 8, and the ICC Champions Trophy will likely be announced within the first three days of February. The Tri-Nation Series, featuring Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa, will serve as crucial preparation for the Champions Trophy.

Several established players, including captain Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah, are expected to feature in the squad. However, the selection process also considers younger prospects like Abbas Afridi and Aamir Jamal.

Meanwhile, players such as Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Hasnain are unlikely to make the cut due to the already competitive roster. The Champions Trophy will be held across three Pakistani venues-Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi-as well as Dubai. The tournament will feature eight teams.

It will kick off with Pakistan's match against New Zealand on February 19. Notably, Pakistan will face arch-rivals India on February 23 in Dubai, a fixture that has already heightened excitement among fans. With the February 11 deadline looming, PCB has little time to finalize its squad while also managing injury concerns.
