Pakistan are officially eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2026 as Sri Lanka have crossed the mark by which Pakistan had to restrict them in the ongoing Super Eight match of the tournament.
Pavan Rathnayake has been playing a stellar knock as Sri Lanka have gone past the 147-mark, a score Pakistan had in their minds as they came out to ball in the match.

Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman unleashed a blistering assault, forging a record-breaking 176-run partnership for the first wicket, the highest in T20 World Cup history. Farhan smashed a stunning century off 60 balls (9 fours, 5 sixes) at a strike rate of 166.67, marking his second ton in the tournament and becoming the first batter to achieve this feat in a single edition. Zaman complemented with an explosive 84 off 42 deliveries (9 fours, 4 sixes), racing to a fiery fifty and dominating the powerplay (64/0) and beyond.
Pakistan raced to 100 in 10 overs and 150 in 14, showcasing aggressive intent on a batting-friendly pitch. However, Sri Lanka staged a late fightback, restricting them in the death overs through Dilshan Madushanka (3 wickets) and Dasun Shanaka (2), as the innings dipped from dominance to 212/8 in 20 overs.
Although the match in Kandy continues, New Zealand have qualified for the semifinal along with England. From the other group, South Africa have already progressed. The fourth team will be decided on Sunday (March 1), as the winner of India and West Indies will advance to the last four.
