The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly set to pull out of the Asia Cup 2025, as well as the upcoming Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, citing objections over Pakistan's leadership in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
The ACC is currently chaired by Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and sources suggest this has prompted India to reconsider its participation in tournaments overseen by the council.

According to The Indian Express, the BCCI has already communicated its stance to the ACC. As per the report, The Indian team can't play in a tournament that is organised by the ACC whose chief is a Pakistan minister. That's the sentiment of the nation.
As things stand, BCCI has verbally communicated to ACC about the withdrawal from the upcoming Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup as well, and India's future participation in their events too is on hold. We are in constant touch with the Indian government.
Social media is currently buzzing as soon as the report came out. Fans have flocked Twitter X to support the decision taken by the Indian cricket board.
''Its Pak that has been mocked globally. ASIA CUP goes for a toss now. PAK doesn't have the aura to convince ACC to continue the tournament even without INDIA. Don't be like ur clown leaders. Any international cricket tournament without India is impossible thats the clout of India'', an user wrote.
''India opting out of Asia Cup 2025 isn't about cricket, it's about principle. When sports bodies ignore security and sovereignty concerns, the BCCI is right to stand firm. Respect is a two-way street, not a pitch for politics. #AsiaCup2025 #IndiaFirst #BCCI'', a fan wrote.
''This will finish Asia Cup as without audience generated revenue from India, they can't keep the tournament going. So eventually they are going to ask Pakistan to leave and request India to play'', another user wrote.
India's potential withdrawal from the 2025 Asia Cup carries significant implications for the tournament's future, with sources indicating that the BCCI is fully aware of its influence. Given that the majority of sponsors for international cricket events hail from India, staging an Asia Cup without India-especially one lacking the high-stakes India vs. Pakistan clash-would be a tough sell for broadcasters and fans alike.
In 2024, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) secured broadcasting rights for the Asia Cup for the next eight years in a deal valued at USD 170 million. Should this year's edition be cancelled, the agreement may need to be renegotiated. Currently, the five full member nations of the Asian Cricket Council - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan - receive 15% each of the broadcasting revenue. The remaining portion is shared among associate and affiliate members.
Political tensions have already disrupted past editions. In 2023, when Pakistan was named host of the Asia Cup, India declined to travel across the border. As a result, a hybrid model was adopted, and India played all its matches in Sri Lanka. The tournament ended with India lifting the trophy after defeating Sri Lanka in the final, while Pakistan failed to make it to the summit clash.
A similar situation unfolded during the 2024 ICC Champions Trophy, again hosted by Pakistan. India once more insisted on a hybrid format, playing its matches in Dubai. The tournament culminated with India not only reaching the final but also clinching the title - once again denying Pakistan the opportunity to host the final at home.
