Pakistan-origin England players receive India Visa ahead of T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council has successfully resolved visa challenges for Pakistani-origin players ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

England's key spinners Adil Rashid, Rehan Ahmed, and Saqib Mahmood now hold approved Indian visas, clearing prior uncertainties.

ICC officials collaborated with Indian authorities to process documents for 42 players and staff from nations including England, Netherlands, USA, UAE, and Canada. While England and Netherlands squads are confirmed, approvals for UAE, USA, Italy, Bangladesh, and additional Canadian personnel are expected by next week, meeting the January 31 deadline.​

By January 18, 2026, positive updates emerged: visas for England's affected players, including Rashid, Ahmed, and Mahmood, have now been granted. This allows the full squad to assemble and travel to India in time for their opening match against Nepal in Mumbai on February 8.

Such visa challenges are not uncommon for Pakistani-heritage cricketers touring India, as seen in past instances like Shoaib Bashir's delay during a previous Test series. However, assurances from authorities and ICC intervention have ensured no major disruptions to England's campaign in the 20-team event.

With the squad now cleared, England, led by captain Harry Brook, can focus fully on defending their title ambitions in a high-stakes tournament.
