Pakistan Pacer Shaheen Afridi Nominated for ICC's Player of The Month for April 2024

Pakistan's former captain Shaheen Afridi has been shortlisted for the prestigious ICC Men's Player of the Month for April 2024 on Monday. The two other players to be nominated are Namibia's Gerhard Erasmus and UAE's Muhammad Waseem.

April saw Shaheen Afridi in spectacular form during Pakistan's T20I series against New Zealand. Despite a rain-affected start to the series, Afridi shone brightly, claiming the only wicket in the opening match.

He continued his exceptional form into the subsequent matches in Rawalpindi and Lahore, contributing significantly to Pakistan's defensive strategy.

In the second match of the series, Afridi's brilliance was on full display as he snagged 3 wickets for just 13 runs, dismantling the New Zealand batting lineup and restricting them to a meager 90 runs. This performance not only earned him the Player of the Match but also set the tone for the rest of the series.

The finale of the series saw Afridi at his best, capturing 4 wickets for 30 runs in yet another Player of the Match performance. This crucial outing helped Pakistan level the series, showcasing Afridi's ability to deliver under pressure.

His total haul of eight wickets across the series secured him the Player of the Series award, underlining his pivotal role in Pakistan's bowling attack.

Shaheen Afridi faces stiff competition for the ICC Men's Player of the Month title. Gerhard Erasmus of Namibia showcased his all-round capabilities during a tour of Oman, where he put up stellar performances including a rapid 64 from just 29 deliveries in the series decider, which Namibia won convincingly.

On the other hand, Muhammad Waseem from the UAE left a mark with his explosive batting at the ACC Premier Cup, scoring a century in the final to lead his team to victory. His consistently high scores throughout the series have made him a strong candidate for the award.

Among the women's cricketers nominees for April, the three names shortlisted are Hayley Matthews (West Indies), Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka) and Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa).
