Pakistan SC dismisses petition against PCB chief Nasim Ashraf

Karachi, Apr 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court of Pakistan has turned down a petition challenging the appointment of Nasim Ashraf as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman by patron-in-chief Pervez Musharraf, according to a spokesman of Nasim.

Nasim was appointed by President Musharraf as PCB chief on October 7, 2006 after Shahryar Mohammad Khan resigned following vice captain Younis Khan's refusal to accept the job of captaincy in place of Inzamam-ul-Haq for the ICC Champions Trophy in India.

Nasim resigned from his office following Pakistan's poor performance in the World Cup but Musharraf declined to accept his resignation on April 4.

The spokesman also revealed the PCB would contest the legal notice served by former Test cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz on Nasim.

''We have received the legal notice and our legal advisors will deal with it,'' the spokesman told 'Daily Times'.

The Supreme Court last month summoned Nasim in a petition moved against his appointment as chairman of the PCB.

Notices to the respondents, PCB and secretary sports, were issued after a brief hearing by the Chief Justice in his chamber.

Petitioner Wasim, a Rawalpindi-Islamabad local, had pleaded before the court to replace Nasim with an experienced person having complete understanding of the game, suggesting an elaborate system of representation for running the affairs of the Board.

The petitioner also sought a declaration against the PCB ad hoc committee to be illegal.
