Pakistan faltered to a crushing victory at the hands of arch-rivals India in their T20 World Cup 2026 group stage match on Sunday (February 15).
With the defeat, Pakistan have now complicated their qualification chances for the next stage of this competition, which is the Super 8s.

At the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl. India scored 175/7, thanks to a fantastic innings from Ishan Kishan, who scored 77 runs off 40 deliveries. Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav also made crucial contributions with the bat.
In reply, Pakistan had a batting collapse yet again. The likes of Sahibzada Farhan, Babar Azam disappointed big time. Usman Khan scored an eye-catching 44 and Faheem Ashraf tried a late battle, which was far from enough as they lost the match by 61 runs.
Pakistan, with the defeat, are now stuck with 4 points after three matches. Meanwhile, USA's earlier victory over Namibia has also taken them to 4 points in four matches. Pakistan do have another match to play, which will be against Namibia on Wednesday (February 18).
To qualify for the Super 8s, Pakistan will have to ensure a victory as that would be enough for them to qualify for the Last eight. If the match is washed out, Pakistan would get a point and still qualify for the Super 8 stages.
India, with their thumping win, have now qualified for the Super 8s and are likely to progress as group winners. They will play their final group stage match against the Netherlands on Wednesday as well, which will be played in Ahmedabad. And in terms of the points table, Pakistan have gone down below USA for an inferior Net Run Rate, which means a shock defeat against Namibia can end their T20 World Cup race.
Apart from India, the teams that have qualified for Super 8s are West Indies, while South Africa are also on the verge of qualification. Nepal, Oman and Namibia are already officially eliminated from this T20 World Cup.
