Who Won the Toss Today, PAK vs AFG World Cup 2023 Match 22: Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bat first against Hashmatullah Shahidi's Afghanistan in ICC World Cup 2023 Match 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday (October 23).

Pakistan and Afghanistan head into the match on the back of defeats. While Babar's Pakistan lost to Australia at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Afghanistan lost to New Zealand at the same venue as today's match in Chennai.

As for the team news for today's match, Pakistan are forced into a change as an ill Mohammad Nawaz makes way for Shadab Khan, while Afghanistan also make one change and bring in an extra spinner with Noor Ahmad coming in for Fazalhaq Farooqui.

After opting to bat first, Pakistan skipper Babar said: "The pitch looks very dry and might spin. We have one change, Nawaz has fever and Shadab is back. We will have to give our 100% in every match and step-up, that's what I want from my players. The pitch might help the pacers under lights."

After being asked to bowl first, Afghanistan captain Shahidi said: "We wanted to bat first, but the toss is not in your hand. One change for us - Noor Ahmad is in for Fazalhaq Farooqi. We played a series against them in Sri Lanka and we wanted more spinning options. We want to restrict them to 250 or less."

It's the same wicket which was used in the India vs Australia match. So, expect some assist for the slower or spin bowlers especially in the first half during the scorching heat. Dew may play a factor later in the match, but the quicks may find little joy with new ball under lights.

Mpumeleleo Mbangwa and Aaron Finch also acknowledge there won't be much pace on the wicket. The duo as expected feel the spinners will come into effect on possibly the slowest pitch in Chennai. So, another low-scoring game may be on the cards in Chepauk.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, had opened their campaign with defeats to Bangladesh and India before stunning defending champions England to get the first win under their belt, but lost to New Zealand in their most recent match at the Chepauk on a different surface.
