Shadab Khan Creates ODI History With 113* in Pakistan's Thrilling One-Wicket Win Over England; Highest Scores at Every Batting Position

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan scripted history with an unbeaten 113 as Pakistan pulled off a thrilling one-wicket victory over England in the fourth match of the Pakistan ODI tri-series at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday (October 25).

Shadab registered the highest individual score by a batter at No. 8 in men's ODI cricket, rescuing the hosts from a seemingly hopeless position during their chase of 242.

The right-handed batter's 96-ball maiden ODI ton was laced with 13 fours and five sixes, guiding Pakistan to 243/9 in 47.1 overs after they had slumped to 154/9. His unbeaten 89-run partnership with No. 11 Haris Rauf, who contributed seven not out, proved decisive as Pakistan completed the chase with one wicket remaining and 17 balls to spare.

The victory also secured Pakistan's place in the tri-series final, while England suffered a painful defeat despite putting themselves in a commanding position during the second half of the chase.

Shadab Khan Breaks ODI Record With No. 8 Masterclass

Shadab's 113 not out surpassed the previous benchmark for the highest score by a batter at No. 8 in men's ODIs. The Pakistan all-rounder produced a record-breaking innings under pressure to keep his team's chase alive after England's bowlers had reduced the hosts to nine wickets down.

Pakistan's chase had threatened to unravel after England's bowlers repeatedly struck. Shadab, however, held his nerve and kept the scoreboard moving while wickets fell around him. The turning point came when he was initially given out leg-before on 97 against Gus Atkinson, only for a review to reveal an inside edge.

Given a reprieve, Shadab went on to complete his maiden ODI century and finish unbeaten, while Rauf provided crucial support at the other end. Rauf eventually struck the winning boundary to seal one of Pakistan's most dramatic ODI victories.

Earlier, England had been bowled out for 241 in 46.4 overs. Ben Duckett top-scored with 105, while Sam Curran made 42. Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed four wickets for Pakistan, with Arafat Minhas and Razaullah taking two each.

Highest Individual ODI Score at Every Batting Position

Shadab's historic innings adds another remarkable entry to the list of highest individual scores at each batting position in men's ODI cricket. From Martin Guptill's monumental double-century as an opener to Rohit Sharma's historic 264 - the highest individual score in the 50-over format to Mohammad Amir's record at No. 11, the list showcases the different ways batters have shaped ODI history.

Rohit Sharma, Glenn Maxwell and Harry Brook Among Record-Holders

New Zealand opener Martin Guptill's unbeaten 237 against West Indies in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup quarter-final is the highest score by a No.1 batter in the ODIs.

Rohit Sharma's 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014 remains the highest individual score in men's ODIs. The Indian opener's innings at Eden Gardens included 33 fours and nine sixes, setting a record that has stood for more than a decade. Rohit too opened the innings but he didn't face the first ball of the match.

At No. 3, Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry shares the record for the highest score at that position with his unbeaten 194 against Bangladesh in 2009.

England's current whiteball captain Harry Brook entered the record books with his 202 against Sri Lanka, becoming the highest scorer at No. 4 on this list. South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen holds the No. 5 record with 174, while Australia's Glenn Maxwell made an unbeaten 201 batting at No. 6 against Afghanistan at the 2023 World Cup.

Former New Zealand batter Luke Ronchi's unbeaten 170 at No. 7, scored against Sri Lanka in 2015, remains the highest at that position. Ronchi is one of the few batters to have played for two nations. Shadab now holds the No. 8 record with his match-winning 113 not out against England.

At the lower end of the order, West Indies swashbucker Andre Russell's 92 not out is the listed benchmark at No. 9, while his fellow teammate and pacer Ravi Rampaul holds the No. 10 record with an unbeaten 86. Pakistan's Mohammad Amir completes the list with 58 runs at No. 11.
