Pakistan vs England: Shan Masood Left Stunned by Pak Journalist's Question, PCB Official Urges to Show Respect

In a surprising turn of events, Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood was left speechless when confronted with a blunt question from a journalist about his captaincy during a press conference ahead of the crucial three-match Test series against England.

The encounter, which took place during a press conference ahead of the Pakistan vs England Test series from October 7 in Multan, has been making headlines, with a particular moment drawing considerable attention.

During the press conference, a journalist raised a bold question that visibly stunned Masood, asking whether the captain had ever considered stepping down from his role due to Pakistan's dismal performance under his leadership.

The reporter, identified as Javed Iqbal inquired, “Shan, abhi aapne bola ki jab tak voh mauka de rahe hain toh aap avail karenge. Par kya kabhi khud se khuddari nahi aati ki haar gaye, performance nahi ho rahi, toh chhod k chale jaaye?” (Shan, you just said that as long as you're given the opportunity, you'll avail it. But doesn't it come from within to step aside when you've been losing and the performances aren't there?)

While Masood avoided any response to the question, PCB Director of Media and Communication Sami ul Hasan then requested the journalist and other media representatives present to treat the national team captain with respect.

Shan Masood’s tenure as Pakistan’s red-ball captain has been far from smooth. Since taking over the reins from Babar Azam, Masood has overseen five consecutive Test defeats, including a shocking 2-0 home series loss to Bangladesh earlier this year. Pakistan's struggles in Test cricket have added pressure on Masood, especially as the team prepares for a crucial series against England.

Speaking to the media before the England series, Masood admitted that recent results had been frustrating but emphasized the importance of staying optimistic and supporting the team.

“The series is crucial for us to regain the confidence of our fans and supporters of Pakistan cricket. It is frustrating the way we have performed in recent times, but our preparations for the England Tests are on track,” Masood stated, as quoted by PTI.

Despite the mounting criticism, Masood stressed the importance of continuity and backing the players through tough times. “It’s easy to make changes after a loss, but if we want to move forward, we must support our players,” he added.

Pakistan has been underperforming across all formats, and Masood’s captaincy is facing significant scrutiny ahead of the series. While acknowledging the tough road ahead, the Pakistan skipper expressed hope that his team would bounce back, starting with the England Tests. "We are at a critical juncture as a team, and we have to remain optimistic," Masood concluded.
