Asia Cup 2023, a 50-over tournament, opens with Pakistan taking on Nepal in first round Group A match at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, Pakistan on Wednesday (August 30).

Babar Azam-led Pakistan head into the tournament on the back of 3-0 series win against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka, while Nepal come into the show-piece tournament on the back of a failed ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifier in Zimbabwe, where they won only 2 of 6 ODI matches.

Pakistan will be led by Babar with Shadab Khan serving as his deputy, while associates Nepal will be led by Rohit Paudel. Leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane will also play a key role for the Nepal side. This will be Nepal's first ODI outing against a big team.

This will also be Nepal's first match in Multan, where Pakistan possess a 7-3 record, having whitewashed the most recent series in 2022 against West Indies. Their three defeats came in 2006 vs India & West Indies, and 2007 vs South Africa.
